Voter Information

Where do I register to vote?

You can register online at www.govotecolorado.com or contact the Rio Grande County Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 719-657-3334 or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You can get voter registration forms from state agency offices, public libraries, or any County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. The deadline to register to vote and be mailed a ballot for the 2016 Primary Election is June 20, 2016 and for the 2016 General Election the deadline is October 31, 2016. You may register to vote up until 7:00 p.m. Election night to vote in person.

What are the requirements to register to vote?

You are eligible to register to vote if you:

  • Are a U.S. citizen
  • Are 16 years of age, but you must be 18 years of age or older on the date of the election at which you intend to vote
  • Are a Colorado resident for at least 22 days before the election at which you intend to vote
  • Are not serving a sentence (including parole) for a felony conviction

How do I become eligible to vote?

In order to be eligible to vote, you must register in the county in which you reside. By registering, you declare your residency in the State of Colorado within the County and District of your actual physical address.


The 2016 General Election will be Tuesday, November 8th. You will receive a ballot at your mailing address beginning October 19, 2016. Ballots must be returned either in person or by mail by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 to be counted. Postmarks do not count as received.

A 24-Hour Drop Box is available on the West side of the building at 965 Sixth Street, Del Norte


The Canvass will be held on November 17, 2016.


You can check the status of your ballot at www.govotecolorado.com. Under “Manage My Registration” click on “Check My Mail Ballot Status”, then enter the Required Information and click on “Search”.
