Who are we
The Museum offers visitors a look into the cultural history of the area from the Native American, to the mountain men fur trappers, to the Mexican land grants and the settlers from New Mexico, to the gold seekers, the farmers, ranchers and merchants who came for land, freedom and a better way of life.
Many came for the adventure.
The museum offers learning opportunities for visitors of all ages. Notebooks of research on the exhibits are available and the director and staff are always willing to give guided tours. Comprehensive exhibits of Fremont Fourth Expedition, Native American, the early settlements of the Hispanics, the potato industry and the development of the Towns of Del Norte and Monte Vista are featured as well as the farming communities in the county. The many cultures of the area are shown here.
Activities include art shows, openings for the new exhibits with receptions. Saturday afternoons are set aside for the community to come and have coffee and history with the museum and the patio will provide a relaxing summer afternoon event.
Rio Grande County Museum is your route of discovery. Come to the museum for the adventure.
