Part-Time Courthouse Security Officer

Rio Grande County Sheriff's Department is seeking a:

Part-Time Court Security Deputy




The Court Security Officer has the responsibility for maintaining order, protecting judges, jurors, prisoners, court personnel and the public, and serves other needs as defined by the Court.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are outlined as follows. Additional duties may be assigned as well:

Provides security for prisoners, witnesses, jurors, court personnel and the public in the courtroom and other designated areas of the courthouse.

May be required to make appropriate action in disruptive situations in the courtroom or other designated areas, including assaultive behavior where persons may be armed or unarmed, and subduing or apprehending escaping prisoners, or to provide first response in other emergency situations.

Protects the privacy and ensures the safety of judges.

Inspects the courtroom, hallways, bathrooms, elevator, jury deliberation room, and other surrounding offices.

Transports papers within the courthouse, notifies the judge that the session is ready to proceed, announces the opening and closing of court sessions, etc.

Accepts defendants into custody and holds them or releases them pursuant to the direction of the court

Ensures courtroom guidelines regarding noise, food, drinks, cell phones, and hats are adhered to. Collects, receives, maintains and transfers documents needed to accompany prisoners.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants can be Colorado POST certified, but not required. The position requires a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED). Back ground check and drug testing required. Must be qualified to carry a firearm. Must have Colorado Driver License. Qualified applicants must be 21 years of age.

STARTING SALARY: $17.98 per hour DOE

Health Equity Specialist






Seeking qualified individual to serve as a Health Equity Program Specialist (a Community Health Promotion Specialist - Equity Lead), in our COVID Response Program for Rio Grande County Public Health Department. This grant-funded position addresses health access and information issues, related COVID-19 and health equity within the Rio Grande County.

Responsibilities include assisting program coordination and grant's implementation, working with community members and organizational partners to achieve grant deliverables. Associate (preferred Bachelor)'s degree in a public health or related field. Experience in community-based program development, grassroots organizing, and knowledge of racial/ethnic minority groups preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively including good group process, facilitation, negotiation and presentation skills.

The Health Equity Program Specialist's main responsibilities will be to provide logistical and materials development support to COVID Response Coordinator to create and compile resources to help public health advocates, staff in Rio Grande Public Health Department, community-based organizations, and others communicate more effectively about COVID-19 and reach out to underserved communities; as well as how it intersects with other important public health and health equity issues. This would include coordinating and attending online events and meetings, tracking requests and resources, responding to requests for information, health equity training, synthesizing information and key themes, and supporting the development and distribution of tips, blogs and other written products.

We are looking for a Health Equity Program Specialist who can commit to 40 hours/week. This is a time-limited position through June 30, 2023. This position will involve a wide range of activities to support racial and health equity-focused work, some of which will be rapidly moving and partnership-driven, and other activities that will necessitate attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Weekend Court Administrative Assistant

Rio Grande County’s Sheriff’s Office is hiring two Weekend Court Administrative Assistants.  These positions will assist the Sheriff with reports, bookings and reporting data to the State of Colorado, District Attorney.  Court/Administrative Assistants will be required to file jail/detention bookings with the weekend courts. Part-time Building Inspector
